  AF JROTC

Soar to New Heights! This outstanding Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp program prepares cadets for college and beyond. We not only teach our cadets aviation history, space exploration, and etiquette, we also mentor and counsel them on the importance of integrity, character and academic excellence. Our cadets are one of the shining examples within the Henry Ford student body. These Junior Officers serve as color guards and ushers during assemblies, sporting events, and conferences. Our cadets also compete with other schools in drill exhibitions and competitions.

  BUSINESS
The Business Department teaches skills that are essential for students to succeed in the global workplace.  Students learn to use software that is used in corporate world and develop practical business skills that are applied throughout life.  Our Business Professionals of America students compete in local, state and national competitions.  Co-op students learn job readiness skills and earn while they learn in onsite and offsite job positions.

  ART /MUSIC/DRAMA
Without the arts life is lifeless. Henry Ford students explore art basics and advanced visual arts. To an extent, our students exercise their music and theatric skills via performances in the annual Christmas plays. This year our students performed “Something Wonderful” by Elizabeth May Wilson with a skeleton cast and crew for the student body and parents. We look forward to the upcoming evening performance of a version of the film “Lean on Me” that featured the tyrannical Joe Clark that will take place in late April 2010.

  ONLINE COURSES AT HENRY FORD
Henry Ford High School embraces 21st Century readiness for the students and the need to provide tools and resources to enable students to catch up, keep up or move ahead, and be ready to compete in the global marketplace. Online courses provide an individualized education experience to meet the needs of a variety of learners. These courses allow us to more effectively fuse traditional learning with the essential 21st Century skills: critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity and innovation. All courses are approved by the district and are created by teachers using a stringent, research-based development process. All courses are aligned with the core content benchmarks for the State of Michigan and are continually updated to meet changing state and national requirements.
Teachers play a critical role in the learning process via both traditional and online classes. This web-based curriculum by Educational Options provides a plethora of tools and resources to meet the needs of the teacher and students that are not always available in the traditional classroom. No longer does one size fit all in adolescent education. Students come in all varieties and benefit from a variety of approaches to instructional delivery. Many students have disconnected from traditional schooling approaches. Some students learn best in the traditional face-to-face, teacher-to-student environment whereas others might not fare as well in this type of environment. Students are better adept than others at interacting with computers and other technology learning tools. The online format may work very well for this group. Others may not be motivated enough to work independently and may require the human element.
Enrollment is limited to administrator / counselor recommendations at present. Enrollment is based primarily on the needs of the student, availability of a teacher, and parental permission to enroll in online classes. Parents and students are invited to visit the website www.edoptions.com for additional information about the company that provides the online service.
